What Do You Think?

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

As we are wrestling with who we are as a body, we will be trying to put some of our thoughts in writing. Periodically I will post some thoughts here, giving you the opportunity to interact with them. Here is the first opportunity.

WHO WE ARE
We are a group of people who recognize that we are all needy.  Our common need stems from the belief that we are sinful and disobedient to God.  This means we don’t deserve anything good from God.  In fact, we deserve only punishment.  However, we believe that God has been so good and loving that He was willing to receive our punishment for us in Jesus’ death.  Because Jesus is God he overpowered death.  Through these beliefs, God changes us for the better, but does not take away our neediness.  We remain a people who are happily needy.

So, what do you think?

How devoted are you to Christ? How devoted to you is He? Remember that these are not meant to beat you down, but rather to challenge you and properly motivate you. What do you think?

Do you have any questions or comments from this past Sunday?

Driven by a Passion for God

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Hello everyone! So sorry that it has been so long, but as teh commercials say, “Life comes at you fast.”

Please feel free to comment or ask questions related to last Sunday’s message on “Christian Hedonism.” I also ran across a quote by Edwards that is very thoughtful and relates to our recent discussions about not stopping at knowledge as the end. Piper quotes it in his biography message on Edwards. Here is the quote.

“Seek not to grow in knowledge chiefly for the sake of applause, and to enable you to dispute with others; but seek it for the benefit of your souls, and in order to practice . . . Practice according to what knowledge you have. This will be the way to know more. . . . [According to Psalm 119:100] “I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.” (Works, II, 162f)

There you go. Any thoughts?

Re-evaluation and Where We Go Next

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Hello everyone! Well, we had an interesting time Sunday discussing things. I hope I was clear and we can proceed from here with a good perspective. I would open this up for anyone to throw out questions and comments that you have thought about since our time. Please feel free to throw it out there and we can discuss it.

Thanks for your patience as we work this out. It will really be a great thing and will help us serve Christ more effectively.

I do want to clarify something I said. i made the comment that we should have some outward form of expression. The example in teh text was lifting our hands. I am not sure you MUST have some outward expression, but I will say that it will be perfectly natural to have outward expressions if we are affected by what we are learning. Anyway, I hope that helps.

Looking forward to your comments.

Hello everyone,

So sorry I did not put this up before now, but now here it is. I would love to hear your thoughts and questions.

Thanks for your patience and let us all ask God to provide what we need while we consider our own budgets.

Double Duty

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

Hello everyone!

Here is the initial post that will cover both the message that JJ taught today as well as our family discussion. Please feel free to comment or question either in this forum and we will respond accordingly.

With our discussion on finances today, I feel I am inadequate to communicate everything we should cover in the way we should cover it. Please  help me to work through the relevant passages so that we can all glorify God in this area as well.

Thanks and let the conversation begin.
